Price: $79.99

This vibrant, vigorous ’10 Brunello offers a palate of wildflowers, brambly fruit, herbs, spices and telltale Montalcino terroir, making it not just outstanding but a standout value. Originally, Gaja’s Pieve Santa Restituta, part of which abuts the historic vineyards of Gianfranco Soldera, had two major holdings, Rennina and Sugarille, but the estate added 25 very breezy acres in Brunello’s northeast subzone in 2006. This Brunello derives from all of the vineyard's holding to create a traditional cuvee that is a classic, elegant, refined Brunello with great aromatics and really nice acidity. more info

Gaja Pieve Santa Restituta Brunello Sugarille 1996 750ml
Gaja Pieve Santa Restituta Brunello Sugarille 1996 750ml
Price: $144.99
Currently Unavailable.

Pieve Santa Restituta, part of which abuts the historic vineyards of Gianfranco Soldera, is divided into two major holdings: Rennina and Sugarille. Rennina is sourced from three discrete vineyard sites that date back to 1500s. Rennina offers an earlier degree of accessibility, and its signature floral aroma leads into a palate of cherry fruit, currant, tar, and spice. It's the "friendlier" of the two Brunellos, but it still shows great structure, elegance and restraint. more info

Case Basse di Soldera Brunello di Montalcino 1994 750ml
Case Basse di Soldera Brunello di Montalcino 1994 750ml
Price: $525.00

Upon release, this product of a cool, dry growing year seemed overly austere, but two decades later, this ’94 is showing the promise of its incredible structure and balance. The nose bursts with red and black berries, truffles, warm cigar wrapper, spice, minerals and fresh-ground espresso, and the palate echoes these notes in this detailed, textured ’94 Brunello. So transparent that its Sangiovese Grosso nearly gleams, this Brunello is pure Soldera--a beguiling, complex, and gratifying experience. Although it’s more than two decades old, this wine is juicy, succulent and fresh, offering a tremendous minerality in the mid-palate and a long, lingering finish. Produced from Soldera's two plots, Case Basse and Intistieti, this wine ages in large Slavonian oak barrels for around five years before being bottled without any fining or filtration. more info

Case Basse di Soldera Rosso IGT 2009 750ml
Case Basse di Soldera Rosso IGT 2009 750ml
Price: $599.00

Rose petals, licorice, underbrush, saddle leather and spice frame this wine’s expressive, racy Sangiovese Grosso fruit. Powerful, fresh and caressing, this ’09 Rosso is very clearly a Soldera wine, and although it can’t be called a Brunello, it is one in all but its name. The product of a ripe vintage with a midsummer heat spike, this ’09 Soldera bottling shows its maker’s mastery in its impeccable balance, kaleidoscopic palate and caressing texture. Since his first harvest in 1975, Soldera always vinified the same way--aging his wine traditionally in large Slavonian oak for five years and then an additional six to 12 months in bottle before release--but in 2008, Soldera shifted his protocol, aging partly in botti and finishing the wine’s aging in stainless steel before bottling. 2009 was one of the vintages that ended up on the floors of Soldera’s cantina in the 2012 act of vandalism, and there were just 700 cases of this exceptional wine made. more info

Case Basse di Soldera Rosso IGT 2011 750ml
Price: $599.00

A warm year, 2011 offers a ripe, rich, enveloping evocation of Soldera’s Rosso; this wine bursts from the glass with a profusion of ripe, red fruits, crushed wildflowers, fresh loam, and kisses of spice and earth. Silky and electric, the wine glides with a tactile grace, releasing a sweet inner perfume that finds its match in savory minerals and touches of herbs as it builds to a resounding crescendo. You’ll want to drink Soldera’s aromatic ’11 Rosso right away (and you can), but it’ll be even better in a few years. 2011 was one of the vintages that ended up on the floors of Soldera’s cantina in the 2012 act of vandalism, and fewer than 300 cases of this exceptional wine remained. more info
