Nicolis Amarone della Valpolicella Ambrosan 2006 750ml
Rich, full-bodied, exquisitely balanced and traditional, this ’06 cru Amarone offers a palate of brambly berries that dance with touches of Christmas fruitcake, exotic spices, earth, warm saddle leather, autumn leaves and cigar wrapper. With a velvety mouth-feel and a nicely acidic finish, this blend of 70% Corvina, 20% Rondinella and the remainder Croatina, the single-vineyard Ambrosan derives from a southwest-facing, sloping vineyard located in San Pietro in Cariano. Nicolis' approach includes placing harvested grapes in small cases during the three-month drying period; a long, slow fermentation period at low temperatures; the use of Croatina grapes, which take the place of Molinara, the usual third contributor to the blend; and aging in medium-sized Slavonian oak casks.

Now with almost two decades of age, this ’99 Amarone shows its maturity in its silken texture, yet its acidic freshness and piquant minerals drive it to a lingering, gorgeous finish. A blend of 65% Corvina Veronese, 30% Rondinella, and the remainder a mix of Molinara, Dindarella, Negrara, Croatina, Oseleta, Rossignola and Pelara, this Amarone shows its limestone soil in its intense minerality. Vinified with very traditional methods of appassimento technique and extended aging in botti, Monte Faustino Amarone is an artisanal jewel.
