Silky, Powerful Under $80 Renzo Seghesio Barolo Ginestra!
September 19, 2018
A Note from Sergio

Today's offer is two vintages of Renzo Seghesio's silky, seductive Barolo Ginestra, a cru wine that's under $80. Seghesio has a reputation for delicious, approachable wine, and today's Baroli come from two warm vintages, 2011 and 2012, so this Barolo duo holds a combination of traits you don't normally see: they're enjoyable young, yet they have the structure to age. Summer may be holding on, but soon we'll be feeling fall's cool, sharp, sunny days and its chilly, crisp nights, weather that makes Barolo feel right. If you're an impatient Barolo lover, there's no time like right now to get into Renzo Seghesio.

The Renzo Seghesio estate has run a pretty low profile--but it has been growing grapes and making wine for more than a century. For a long time, the Seghesio family grew grapes for Piemonte's most important Barolo producers; in fact, for decades the estate sold grapes to Domenico Clerico from its Pajana vineyard in Ginestra. But in the late 1960s, Renzo Seghesio took control of his family's estate with an eye to making his own interpretation of the great Ginestra cru. Renzo started making wines in his parents' garage, and his authentic, silky Barolo give an approachable spin to traditional Barolo. Coming from the historic Ginestra vineyard, today's Seghesio Barolo show a modern profile, but they're so delicious that even hardcore Barolo traditionalists will love them.
