What is it that makes Masseto so magical? It is a variety of factors; certainly the team of winemakers, the state-of-the-art technology, the finest 225-liter French oak barrels, but more importantly the location where the noble Merlot takes root. With Andre Tchelistcheff’s guidance and persistance, Lodovico established a site dedicated to the noble Merlot. The spot contains a unique blend of three clays in the soil and carries its own unique microclimate. Walking through the 70-acre estate and stepping on the distinct soils of the Masseto vineyard, you can see the mythical vineyards of Sassicaia resting on the side of a steep hill nearby.
