Jess Jackson might have made his fame for owning the juggernaut of supermarket wine, Kendall-Jackson, and its umbrella of wine estates, but in the late '90s this California native was moved to create fine Bordeaux-style blends in Sonoma County. He persuaded Pierre Siellan--a vigneron who grew up at his family's estate in Armagnac, worked in the Loire Valley, and spent two decades as technical director and winemaker for seven different Bordeuax châteaux--to join him in 1997, and Vérité was born. Dedicated to "micro-crus" of Sonoma vineyards, Vérité crafts three different wines that reflect their inspirations: La Muse, dominated by Merlot as in Pomeral; Le Désir, Merlot with more Cabernet Franc, as in St. Émilion; and La Joie, more Cabernet Sauvignon than Merlot, as in Medoc. Considered the "pet project" of Jess Jackson, the wine tycoon who passed away in 2011, Vérité stands as one Sonoma boutique wine estate that consistently earns the high praise it receives for its intense, well-wrought Bordeaux-style blends.
