Finessed and elegant, this ’17 Impero Primitivo wafts from the glass with a profusion of cherries, berries, rose petals, Mediterranean scrub, white pepper and licorice. For all its power, this wine feels almost weightless, layering its copious dry extract with silky tannins and vivid acidity, and filling the mouth with a marvelous texture as it slinks to a sustained finish. Chris Deas, Italian Wine Merchants: “It’s the return of our “zip-a-dee-doo-dah, zip-a-dee-ay” wine. This fresh wine is all about purity of generous fruit and minerality, and it continues with the 2020 release. The wine once again captures its coastal origins and granite-based soils that add layers of depth and minerality to an explosive core of citrus. A special value treat from the great patriarch of the region, this entry-level cuvée is sourced from 35-year-old vines in eleven different vineyards and aged in stainless steel. This organic wine is all about freshness, and the Bodega’s signature notes of green apple, lime and minerality are present, accented by white flowers, herbs, a touch of grapefruit, ginger, and ocean salinity. In 2020 there is a little more fruit and texture to make it an easy summer crowd-pleaser, but the standout here is the crisp dryness of the wine and its balancing acidity. We are talking more finesse than our other favorite Albariño from the region, DO Ferreiro. This is another classic match for seafood. Again, production is limited, just 2,500 cases and very little arrives into the US. Absolutely exciting to drink, these are transporting wines — a true vacation in a glass and summer refreshment to share with friends and food.” more info

2018 CRISTOM VINEYARDS MT. JEFFERSON CUVEE PINOT NOIR
Christopher Deas, Italian Wine Merchants: “I have preached about this so many times before – if you wanna fall in love with Oregon Pinot Noir...look no further than what is the signature of the region! And with the 2018 vintage and its consecutive run, this our Lou Gerhig of American Pinot. Sure, it has Burgundian sensibility, but it screams Willamette Valley and not Sonoma. Its intoxicating nose once again grabs you by the nostrils from across the table with notes of rose petals, black raspberries, sour strawberries, macerated cherries, cranberries, star anise, with citrus, herbs, chalk, and salinity joining the party on the palate. There’s plenty of generous ripe 2018 fruit here, and it is a slightly richer, more powerful wine than the leaner 2017. However, the signature brightness and savory note of this wine remains on full display. There is simply a mastery of whole cluster fermentation and this is a wine that is about balance, tension and energy, with an awesome core of rich fruit – just hinting at its full potential. It is a wine that evolves and changes in the glass, with an inner perfume that just echoes and lingers on the finish - so enjoy this over the evening with food, family and friends. What can I say that has not been said before – this is just an awesome expression of Pinot Noir delivered with tremendous value.”

Christopher Deas, Italian Wine Merchants: “I have preached about this so many times before– if you wanna fall in love with Oregon Pinot Noir...look no further than what is the signature of the region! And with the 2019 vintage and its consecutive run since 2012, this our Lou Gerhig of American Pinot. Sure, it has Burgundian sensibility, but it screams Willamette Valley and not Sonoma. Its intoxicating and seductive nose once again grabs you by the nostrils from across the table with notes of rose petals, wild raspberries, dried strawberries, maraschino cherries, cranberries, star anise, with citrus, herbs, chalk, and salinity joining the party on the palate. We found the 2019 to be slightly leaner and more savory than the 2018, with additional lift, precision and complexity - but there’s plenty of generous fruit here. There is simply a mastery of whole cluster fermentation that can only come with the same winemaker at the helm for 25 years (well done Steve). This is a wine that is about balance, tension and energy, with an awesome core of fruit – just hinting at its full potential. It is a wine that evolves and changes in the glass, with an inner perfume that subtly echoes and lingers on the finish - so enjoy this over the evening with food and friends. But here is the tip, this is another wine we treat like a Chianti, and serve it with steak (from the Konro grill – yakitori style) – as Aubert de Villaine of DRC states, steak and Pinot are a brilliant pair. What can we say that we have not said before – this is just an awesome expression of Pinot Noir delivered with tremendous value. Simply awesome, 2019 might be just be our favorite release to date. Case me two please.” more info
