Christopher Deas, Italian Wine Merchants: "Here is an exciting new release that made us do a double-take for so many reasons. It is a Sangiovese and Pinot Noir blend from the iconic Montalcino producer Cerbaiona. Additionally, it is a multi-vintage blend of 2018 and 2017, and contains some prized fruit from Poggio Scalette. More important than all these critical parts, the wine truly captured our attention with its soft, silky texture and classic Sangiovese spine. It is a juicy and expansive mouthful of red and blue fruit that maintains its signature lift and brightness. You can expect nuances of black cherry, wild raspberries, plum, violets, herbs, minerality and a touch of baked earth. On top of all that, the wine is under $29. It is a lot of wine for the price and it is the perfect everyday drinker."

Cerbaiona Description

The estate was established with the 1981 vintage by former pilot Diego Molinari, and from 1982 onwards they have performed flawlessly. Daniel Thomases, the senior critic of Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, rates the estate as closest to Case Basse di Soldera, the most expensive and sought after Brunello on the market. And like Soldera, the wines are aged in the "old style" with Slavonian tonneaux instead of the fashionable French barriques. The "Commander," as this pilot is commonly called, creates a consistent style of pure elegance backed with power. These impeccably made Brunellos are an IWM favorite.
