The 2016 Barolo La Morra is a stunning village-level Barolo from a vintage considered one of the greatest of the 21st century. Aromatically, it opens with vibrant red cherry, raspberry, and strawberry, supported by rose petals, licorice, and subtle spice. The palate is medium to full-bodied, with fine-grained tannins and lively acidity that highlight the fruit’s purity. Mineral undertones and notes of tobacco and earth emerge with air, adding depth and complexity. The finish is long and graceful, marked by a balance of fruit, freshness, and refined structure. Already charming, this 2016 has the poise and backbone to develop beautifully for 15–20 years.
Roberto Voerzio, the celebrated modernist from La Morra, has built his reputation on extreme dedication in the vineyard, producing some of Barolo’s most concentrated and expressive wines. His philosophy revolves around dramatically reduced yields—often just one or two bunches per vine—resulting in fruit of remarkable intensity. While Voerzio is best known for his single-vineyard Barolos from crus like Brunate, Cerequio, and Rocche dell’Annunziata, he also crafts a village-level Barolo from La Morra. This cuvée captures the essence of the commune’s terroir: elegance, perfume, and silky textures. For collectors and enthusiasts, it offers a window into Voerzio’s style in a more approachable, earlier-drinking expression while still carrying the hallmark longevity of his wines.
