At the heart of Prunotto’s red wine program are its holdings in Bussia and Colonnello, two of the most celebrated crus in Monforte d’Alba. These vineyards sit on prime hillside exposures and are known for producing some of the most structured and powerful expressions of Nebbiolo in all of Barolo. Bussia, with its marl and sandstone soils, yields wines of firm tannic backbone and deep fruit concentration, while Colonnello, a prized sub-section within Bussia, brings more elegance and nuance, with an ability to evolve beautifully over decades. Prunotto’s Barolos from these sites consistently deliver incredible depth, classic austerity in youth, and exceptional capacity to age, reflecting both the quality of the terroir and the estate’s restrained, traditional style.
But Prunotto’s dedication to ageworthy wines doesn’t stop with Nebbiolo. The Pian Romualdo Barbera d’Alba, sourced from high-altitude vineyards in Monforte, is an unusually serious expression of Barbera—structured, dark-fruited, and vinified with ageing in mind. While many Barbera wines are meant for early drinking, Pian Romualdo is built to reward time in the cellar, developing savory complexity and richness over the years.
