The story of Prunotto is deeply rooted in the heart of Piedmont, where tradition and terroir converge to create wines of extraordinary character. Founded in the early 1900s, Prunotto first gained renown under the guidance of Beppe Colla, a visionary winemaker and one of the earliest to champion the concept of single-vineyard Barolo and Barbaresco wines. His commitment to site expression and long-lived wines set the tone for the estate’s enduring reputation. Today, Prunotto continues to honor that legacy, crafting wines that speak clearly of place, history, and elegance, now under the ownership and stewardship of the Antinori family, who have brought investment and precision to these historic lands.
At the heart of Prunotto’s red wine program are its holdings in Bussia and Colonnello, two of the most celebrated crus in Monforte d’Alba. These vineyards sit on prime hillside exposures and are known for producing some of the most structured and powerful expressions of Nebbiolo in all of Barolo. Bussia, with its marl and sandstone soils, yields wines of firm tannic backbone and deep fruit concentration, while Colonnello, a prized sub-section within Bussia, brings more elegance and nuance, with an ability to evolve beautifully over decades. Prunotto’s Barolos from these sites consistently deliver incredible depth, classic austerity in youth, and exceptional capacity to age, reflecting both the quality of the terroir and the estate’s restrained, traditional style.
But Prunotto’s dedication to ageworthy wines doesn’t stop with Nebbiolo. The Pian Romualdo Barbera d’Alba, sourced from high-altitude vineyards in Monforte, is an unusually serious expression of Barbera—structured, dark-fruited, and vinified with ageing in mind. While many Barbera wines are meant for early drinking, Pian Romualdo is built to reward time in the cellar, developing savory complexity and richness over the years. On today’s special offer, we’re thrilled to showcase a rare lineup of Barolo Bussia and Riserva Colonnello wines, including perfectly aged bottles dating back to 2008, as well as the elegant and refined 1996 Prunotto Barbaresco, from one of the finest vintages of the 1990s. And for lovers of Barbera, we’re equally proud to present mature vintages of Pian Romualdo—some with up to a decade of age—to show just how graceful and profound this misunderstood grape can be when treated with seriousness.
