Poggio di Sotto, founded in 1989 by Piero Palmucci in the southeastern corner of Montalcino near Castelnuovo dell’Abate, quickly rose to cult status for its uncompromising devotion to Sangiovese purity. The estate’s vineyards sit between 200 and 450 meters above sea level on galestro and marl soils, benefitting from both the warmth of the southern exposures and the cooling breezes from Mount Amiata. This unique microclimate allows the grapes to ripen slowly and evenly, preserving acidity and aromatic complexity—key to the estate’s signature balance of power and grace.
The winemaking at Poggio di Sotto has always been defined by restraint and tradition. Fermentations are spontaneous with native yeasts, aging takes place in large Slavonian oak casks for extended periods, and intervention in the cellar is minimal. The result is a Brunello that speaks not of technique, but of place—marked by haunting perfume, fine-grained tannins, and an ethereal texture that seems to defy gravity. Over time, the wines have shown remarkable longevity, evolving with Burgundian nuance while maintaining their Tuscan soul.
Now under the stewardship of Claudio Tipa’s ColleMassari group, the estate has continued Palmucci’s exacting philosophy while refining precision in the vineyard and cellar. Poggio di Sotto remains one of the most revered names in Brunello, its wines commanding attention for their emotional depth and unwavering authenticity. Each vintage is less a product and more a testament to patience, craft, and the quiet conviction that great Sangiovese needs little more than time and truth to reveal its magic.
The collection we present today is truly unfindable anywhere else. These wines are as rare as it gets and all are in our temp-controlled cellar and have perfect provenance. It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity!
