Poggio Di Sotto Brunello di Montalcino Library Vintage Collection and other Vintage Rare Brunello

Poggio di Sotto, founded in 1989 by Piero Palmucci in the southeastern corner of Montalcino near Castelnuovo dell’Abate, quickly rose to cult status for its uncompromising devotion to Sangiovese purity. The estate’s vineyards sit between 200 and 450 meters above sea level on galestro and marl soils, benefitting from both the warmth of the southern exposures and the cooling breezes from Mount Amiata. This unique microclimate allows the grapes to ripen slowly and evenly, preserving acidity and aromatic complexity—key to the estate’s signature balance of power and grace.

The winemaking at Poggio di Sotto has always been defined by restraint and tradition. Fermentations are spontaneous with native yeasts, aging takes place in large Slavonian oak casks for extended periods, and intervention in the cellar is minimal. The result is a Brunello that speaks not of technique, but of place—marked by haunting perfume, fine-grained tannins, and an ethereal texture that seems to defy gravity. Over time, the wines have shown remarkable longevity, evolving with Burgundian nuance while maintaining their Tuscan soul.

Now under the stewardship of Claudio Tipa’s ColleMassari group, the estate has continued Palmucci’s exacting philosophy while refining precision in the vineyard and cellar. Poggio di Sotto remains one of the most revered names in Brunello, its wines commanding attention for their emotional depth and unwavering authenticity. Each vintage is less a product and more a testament to patience, craft, and the quiet conviction that great Sangiovese needs little more than time and truth to reveal its magic.

The collection we present today is truly unfindable anywhere else. These wines are as rare as it gets and all are in our temp-controlled cellar and have perfect provenance. It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity!

Poggio di Sotto Brunello di Montalcino 2005 – Crafted from meticulously selected Sangiovese Grosso, fermented with native yeasts and aged over three years in large Slavonian oak casks, the 2005 vintage reflects a classic, temperate year in Montalcino. The wine shows remarkable balance between ripeness and freshness, with aromas of red cherry, cedar, and dried rose. On the palate, it is refined and silky, with fine tannins and a long, savory finish that speaks to its elegance and slow evolution.

Poggio di Sotto Brunello di Montalcino 2008 – From a cooler, late-ripening vintage, this Brunello was vinified with minimal intervention and aged in large oak for over 40 months to preserve purity and finesse. The 2008 is lifted and aromatic, showing notes of sour cherry, balsamic herbs, and orange peel, framed by lively acidity. It’s a graceful, high-toned wine that captures Poggio di Sotto’s ethereal style in a more delicate and transparent expression.

Special Price $429.99 – 12 available

Poggio di Sotto Brunello di Montalcino 2012 – A warm, balanced vintage yielded perfectly ripe Sangiovese, fermented slowly in open vats and aged for over three years in large casks. The 2012 offers a deeper, more generous profile—ripe plum, tobacco, wild herbs, and sweet spices—while retaining the estate’s hallmark freshness. Silky yet structured, it combines warmth and precision in a beautifully harmonious way.
