The Bea family has long embraced a philosophy grounded in minimal intervention, organic and biodynamic farming, spontaneous fermentation, no filtration and a deep respect for the native grape variety Sagrantino. Their wines reflect not just fruit, but the rough clay-limestone soils, the high-altitude vineyards, and the wild energy of the terroir. “Cerrete” stands as their flagship single-vineyard expression — the highest site in the appellation, the vines treated with utmost rigor, the production extremely limited, and the result nothing less than an intense, uncompromising wine.

This 2019 “Cerrete” is built like a champion: deep violet-garnet in the glass, the result of 100% Sagrantino from the Cerrete vineyard, the highest and coolest site in Montefalco, delivering altitude-driven freshness even with such a powerful grape. The vinification is deliberately rigorous: long maceration (c. 45 days), one year in stainless steel followed by 43 months in large oak barrels — a process that shapes the anatomy of the wine from the start. 

On the palate, the power is unmistakable: dense layers of dark red and black fruits, balsamic spice, savory dark leather, and Umbrian forest undergrowth. Yet the altitude and site deliver lift—acidity that keeps the wine alive and tannins that are formidable but finely grained rather than blunt. This is not merely big; it is sculpted.
