Founded in 1974 by Valentino Migliorini, Rocche dei Manzoni stands as one of the pioneering estates in Monforte d’Alba, uniting the traditions of Barolo with a spirit of experimentation rare for its time. Originally a Michelin-starred chef, Migliorini brought a precision and creativity from the kitchen to the cellar, introducing French oak barriques and crafting one of the earliest “Super Piemontese” blends long before the term became fashionable. His vision redefined what modern Barolo could be—faithful to Nebbiolo’s structure yet elevated by refinement, balance, and longevity.

The estate’s contribution to Barolo lies in its bridge between classic and modern schools. Rocche dei Manzoni was among the first to vinify single vineyards separately, to use temperature-controlled fermentation, and to focus intensely on vineyard management as the true foundation of quality. Their wines helped shape the style of Monforte—structured, powerful, yet with a silken precision that distinguished them from neighboring communes. Over the decades, they have remained family-run, now led by Valentino’s children, maintaining the same devotion to meticulous viticulture and patient élevage.

In winemaking, Rocche dei Manzoni follows a method that merges Burgundian elegance with Barolo’s soul: low yields, long macerations, and slow maturation in a mix of barriques and larger oak casks. Each cru is vinified separately to express its individuality, and aging is extensive, often well beyond DOCG minimums. The result is a collection of wines that speak of Monforte’s limestone-clay soils, shaped by the precision of human craftsmanship and the patience of time.

Rocche dei Manzoni was one of the cornerstone estates on which IWM built its reputation, offering our earliest clients not only new releases but also perfectly aged bottles that revealed the full potential of these remarkable wines. The mythical importer Robert Chadderdon championed the estate as a centerpiece of his portfolio, often presenting Rocche dei Manzoni alongside Bartolo Mascarello—not as rivals, but as two distinct expressions of Nebbiolo’s truth and beauty, each reaching that rare summit of authenticity and soul.

Today, we carry forward that same spirit, proudly presenting a new collection that bridges generations: the estate’s powerful and elegant new releases, including the heroic 2004 Riserva, alongside younger Baroli and other cuvées that showcase their continued mastery.
