The 2004 Madonna Assunta Riserva in magnum or standard format shows evolved aromas: dried cherry, tar, leather, truffle, forest floor, and spice. On tasting, it is structured yet mature, with ripe but firm tannins, savory red fruit, mineral grip, and a long finish. According to vintage commentary, it is “complex, but at the same time sweet with rather fresh notes… huge potential.” The wine remains in a phase where both its youthful backbone and its tertiary nuances are in dialogue—a rewarding bottle for those who enjoy nuance and evolution.
Podere Rocche dei Manzoni is a Monforte d’Alba estate whose ambition is well summed up by its Riserva bottlings, such as Vigna Madonna Assunta la Villa. The Riserva is a ten-year (10 anni) program applied to their top Nebbiolo made from the Castelletto cru vineyard. The estate practices sustainable viticulture and moderate intervention in the cellar: fermentation lasts ~21 days in contact with skins, followed by aging partly in wood and cement, then further refinement in bottle prior to release. The philosophy is to allow Nebbiolo its full expression—structure, tension, and complexity—while giving the wine time to resolve and develop over years.
