Made from the eponymous indigenous grape, is a gorgeous, almost sculptural, white with a mouthwatering acidity and a streak of minerality. Like a marble statue, this wine shows a kind of chiseled beauty that balances against its notes of orange zest, white peaches and wildflower honey. Quite age-worthy.
A resolute eccentric, Edi Kante carved his spectacular state-of-the-art cellars out of the mountainside of Friuli's Carso District twenty years ago. With the zone's distinct limestone-rich soil Edi makes bright, distinct wines which never fail to show as much individuality as he does.Situated in the extreme southeast corner of Friuli, Carso produces sugar-rich fruit in its warm, maritime climate. However, the brisk sea breezes allow the grapes to retain superior acidity, making these wines great accompaniments to the region's rich Slavic food. Although he uses a lot of barrel fermentation, his wines finds a balance of acidity, fruit, and wood flavors.
