The 2015 vintage from La Serena showcases the warm and generous character of the year while retaining remarkable freshness and lift. Aromas of ripe red cherry, sweet tobacco, crushed violet, and earthy undertones emerge from the glass with layered complexity. On the palate, the wine is plush and rounded, offering silky tannins and a core of vibrant fruit supported by subtle spice and mineral notes. Aged in a combination of large Slavonian oak and smaller French tonneaux, this Brunello combines traditional structure with refined texture, making it approachable in its youth while capable of evolving gracefully over the next decade or more.
La Serena is a small, family-run estate located on the eastern side of Montalcino, near the town of Torrenieri, where the Sangiovese vines benefit from a unique combination of altitude, clay-limestone soils, and cooling breezes from Mount Amiata. Established in 1988 by the Mantengoli family, the estate has grown in reputation for producing elegant, terroir-expressive Brunello with a modern edge. Andrea Mantengoli, the current winemaker, has overseen a shift toward organic viticulture and minimalist intervention in the cellar, blending tradition with innovation. With just over 9 hectares of vineyards, La Serena focuses entirely on Sangiovese, crafting wines that emphasize clarity, balance, and drinkability.
