The 2016 “Les Chaillots” is an inky-ruby expression of power and precision. On the nose, it reveals intense blueberry, incense, exotic spice, and stony minerality, unfolding gracefully. On the palate, flavors of spice-laced black and blue fruit, olive, and violet pastille form a densely layered core—imparting focused tension without excess fat. It finishes with freshness, a floral lift, and sleek, steadily building tannins that shape a remarkably long and pure experience. Critics have awarded it 96 points from Vinous, and it’s regarded as a classic, age-worthy Cornas, beautifully balanced in the 2016 vintage.
Domaine Thierry Allemand is a cult favorite in the Cornas appellation of the Northern Rhône. With just under five hectares of vineyards, Allemand revived neglected parcels on the steep, granitic slopes of Cornas with meticulous dedication—often drawing from old-vine syrah planted on schist and granite soils. His minimalist winemaking philosophy shines through in each bottling: full clusters gently foot‑tread in open topped vats, spontaneous fermentations, minimal sulfur use, no racking, and extended élevage in neutral oak or foudre—all aimed at preserving purity and terroir-driven aromatic complexity. Through this approach, Thierry has redefined Cornas, blending powerful structure with elegant finesse.
