Harvested from 19 grand‑cru villages and comprised of 61 % Pinot Noir and 39 % Chardonnay, the 2014 vintage was fermented entirely in small seasoned oak barrels and aged for over seven years on the lees before disgorgement with an 8 g/L dosage. The wine presents a golden‑tinged straw colour with an intense bead. On the nose, it reveals aromas of cherry, lemon, quince, and bergamot, layered with toasted hazelnut, almond, peach and mirabelle plum. On the palate, the mousse is fine and persistent, giving way to vinosity and a superb texture balanced by delicate acidity and cool, sea‑air minerality. The finish is long, with orchard‑fruit depth, citrus‑zest clarity and chalky mineral tension that suggest decades of further evolution.
Founded in 1829 in Œuilly‑sur‑Marne, Bollinger remains one of Champagne’s last truly independent houses, combining vineyard ownership (nearly 160 ha) in top crus like Aÿ, Verzenay and Bouzy with an artisanal style that emphasises oak barrel fermentations, malolactic conversion and extended lees ageing. The “Grande Année” label is only declared in exceptional vintages when fruit from multiple grand‑cru sites reaches perfect maturity and balance. In 2014, the house referenced the unusually high share of Chardonnay (39 %) and the prominence of Verzenay Pinot Noir to highlight the vintage’s unique mineral tension.
