The 2017 magnum opens with a medium‑to‑deep garnet‑purple hue and immediately releases energetic notes of wild blueberries, Morello cherries, baked plums and black raspberries, intertwined with Indian spices, lavender, garrigue and a hint of licorice.  On the palate the richness is evident but held in elegant balance: plush black‑ and blue‑fruit layers ride on fresh acidity, while a superb frame of ripe, velvety tannins supports the wine’s structure.  Mid‑palate complexity brings depth in the form of warm caramelised plums, mocha, cedar and mineral chalkiness, giving the wine both presence and precision. The finish runs very long, with a saline minerality and dry herbs echoing the limestone terroir, signalling a wine built for the long haul.  While tempting to drink now after decanting, this magnum will clearly reward a decade or more of cellaring—projected optimal maturity lies between 2027 and 2040+.

Chateau Belair Monange Description

Situated on the very peak of Saint‑Émilion’s limestone plateau and owned since 2008 by Jean‑Pierre Moueix, Château Bélair‑Monange stands among the Right Bank’s most prestigious estates. Its 23.5 hectares overlook legendary neighbours like Château Ausone, combining blue‑clay slopes with limestone soils to deliver both propulsive power and pure finesse. The vineyard team applies meticulous viticulture—very low yields, optical sorting, and select bunches—to craft wines that reflect both profound terroir and modern precision. In the cellar, vinification blends concrete vats with a measured use of new French oak (roughly 50 %), emphasizing elegance, longevity and clarity rather than excess. With these credentials and a reinvigorated estate since the Moueix intervention, Bélair‑Monange has carved a reputation as a benchmark in today’s Saint‑Émilion top tier.
