The 2021 Ygrec (1.5 L) opens with a pale, bright straw‑yellow hue and vibrant aromas of lemon curd, white peach, grapefruit zest and lime blossoms, layered with subtle flint, wild herbs and a kiss of vanilla oak. On the palate it delivers a striking blend of texture and precision: the creamy richness of Sémillon is balanced by the steely lift of Sauvignon Blanc, presenting crisp acidity and a saline, mineral‑inflected backbone that gives length and tension. Mid‑palate notes include kiwi, pear, lime blossom, and a whisper of crushed stone and smoke. The finish is long, clean and elegantly persistent, with dry almond skin, chalky minerality and lingering citrus peel. Given the format and pedigree, this wine offers immediate prestige yet will develop beautifully over 10–15 + years in cellar.
Château d’Yquem is legendary, the only estate awarded “Premier Cru Supérieur” in the 1855 Bordeaux classification and a benchmark of luxury white wine. Since 1959 (and yearly from 2004) the estate has produced “Y (Ygrec)”, a dry white wine made predominantly from Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, crafted with the same rigorous standards as the famed Sauternes sweet wines yet in a fresher, more modern style. With tiny production (often under 1,000 cases), Ygrec is rare, collectible and built to age.
