The 2010 Château Potensac is a textbook Left Bank wine from one of Bordeaux’s greatest vintages. The nose is layered with blackcurrant, cedar, tobacco leaf, graphite, and subtle spice, while the palate reveals a core of dark fruit framed by firm but polished tannins. Notes of cassis, blackberry, and dried herbs are complemented by hints of smoke, leather, and crushed stone. There is a balance of structure and freshness, with the vibrant acidity of the vintage ensuring both energy and precision. The finish is long and savory, marked by mineral depth and classic Médoc restraint. Built to age gracefully, this wine can be enjoyed now with decanting but will evolve beautifully over the next two decades.
Château Potensac is a highly respected estate in the Médoc, classified as a Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel. Located north of Saint-Estèphe, Potensac has been in the hands of the Delon family (who also own Léoville Las Cases and Clos du Marquis) for generations. The vineyards are planted mainly to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc, rooted in gravel and clay-limestone soils that bring both power and finesse to the wines. Known for crafting long-lived and consistently reliable Bordeaux, Potensac has built a reputation for offering wines that combine Médoc typicity with remarkable value, often outperforming higher-classified neighbors in blind tastings.
