The 2019 Cicala magnum exhibits expressive aromas of rose petal, candied cherry, wild raspberry, graphite, and a whisper of nutmeg. On the palate it is beautifully balanced: silky tannins frame vivid red and dark fruit, with firm acidity lending lift and energy, and the finish lingers with spice, iron, and pure Nebbiolo tension. This magnum format encourages even greater depth and smoothing over time, making it a superb candidate for long‑term cellaring.
Poderi Aldo Conterno is a storied Barolo estate based in Monforte d’Alba, founded by Aldo Conterno in 1969 with a vision to craft terroir‑expressive Nebbiolo of power and elegance. The estate cultivates several single‑vineyard sites in the Bussia Soprana area — Romirasco, Cicala, and Colonnello — each with distinct exposure, soil, and personality. Their philosophy emphasizes low yields, select harvesting, long aging in large Slavonian oak casks, and gradual evolution in bottle, rather than pushing for early showiness. In recent decades, the Conterno family (Franco, Giacomo, Stefano) has maintained that rigorous standard, combining tradition with refined precision to produce wines of longevity, structure, and clarity.
