The 2013 Conca Tre Pile shows red and dark berries, earth, and herbal notes, with a freshness underpinning its maturity. On tasting, it offers juicy fruit, hints of plum and almond, and a clean finish—medium in body but smartly composed.
Poderi Aldo Conterno, founded by Aldo Conterno in Monforte d’Alba, is renowned for combining Barolo tradition with meticulous site expression and balance. While their Barolo holdings in Bussia garner much attention, the estate also dedicates care and precision to secondary varietals like Barbera. Conca Tre Pile is a hillside vineyard in Bussia Soprana, planted exclusively to Barbera, and farmed with selection in the vineyard, manual harvest, and modest yields. The vinification involves 8‑10 days of skin contact in stainless steel, followed by months of refinement in tanks and wood, aiming to preserve vibrancy and varietal character rather than weight. Over the years, Conterno’s Barbera bottlings have earned respect as elegant, expressive wines that reflect vineyard nuance rather than overt extraction.
