The 2017 vintage was defined by a hot, dry summer, producing wines of concentration, ripe tannins, and aromatic intensity. Cerretta 2017 opens with expressive notes of wild strawberry, ripe cherry, rose petal, and dried violet, underpinned by hints of sweet spice, sandalwood, and crushed chalk. The palate is supple yet firmly structured, with flavors of red plum, pomegranate, and subtle licorice layered over a backbone of fine-grained tannins and saline minerality. Its floral lift and mineral precision provide elegance to the vintage’s natural richness. Presented in double magnum (3L), this wine is poised for graceful evolution over 25–30 years, gaining complexity and nuance with extended cellaring.
Established in 1908 in Monforte d’Alba, Giacomo Conterno stands as one of the most revered names in Barolo, a benchmark for traditional winemaking. Under the guidance of Roberto Conterno, the estate remains committed to crafting wines of profound depth and extraordinary aging potential. Every stage—from meticulous vineyard management to extended macerations and prolonged maturation in large Slavonian oak botti—is executed with uncompromising precision. The Cerretta vineyard in Serralunga d’Alba, purchased by Conterno in 2008, is characterized by calcareous clay soils rich in limestone that yield Barolo with lifted aromatics, notable finesse, and a mineral-laced structure. Cerretta is often regarded as the most floral and elegant in Conterno’s single-vineyard range.
