The 2021 Barolo Francia comes from the historic Cascina Francia vineyard in Serralunga d’Alba, a site famed for its iron-rich marl soils that yield Nebbiolo of remarkable power and minerality. The vintage shows a classic Serralunga profile: aromas of ripe cherry, rose, blood orange, and violets interwoven with graphite, licorice, and hints of balsamic herbs. On the palate, the wine is deeply structured yet impeccably balanced, with fine-grained tannins, vibrant acidity, and a long, savory finish marked by mineral tension.
Established in 1908 in Monforte d’Alba, Giacomo Conterno is a benchmark of traditional Barolo, revered for its unwavering dedication to purity, structure, and age-worthiness. Under Giacomo and later his son Giovanni, the estate gained international acclaim for its meticulous winemaking and long-aging Nebbiolo. Today, Roberto Conterno continues this uncompromising vision, overseeing iconic crus such as Cascina Francia and Arione. The winery’s philosophy—long macerations, spontaneous fermentations, and extended aging in large Slavonian oak casks—produces Barolos of profound depth, balance, and longevity, led by the legendary Monfortino Riserva in the best years.
