The 2019 DVO is rich, beautifully perfumed, and powerful yet refined. On the nose: dark berries (blackberry, cassis), spring flowers, loamy earth, and a dash of baking spices. The palate shows vibrant red and black fruit, tobacco leaf, graphite, cedar, and a bright iron spine that adds structure. Tannins are firm and finely grained, giving tension without harshness, and the finish is long and layered. This is a wine built to age—2025‑2040 looks like prime drinking, though its grace and complexity are already showing.
DVO is the ambitious partnership between Napa’s Dalla Valle and Tuscany’s Ornellaia, bringing together New World intensity with Old World finesse. The estate sources fruit from premier Napa AVAs like Oakville, Mount Veeder, and Coombsville, with an eye toward soils, elevation, and microclimates that favor depth and complexity. Maya Dalla Valle leads alongside Alex Heinz, choosing high‑quality lots, aging largely in French oak, and balancing power with elegance. The goal is not just ripeness but harmony: fruit, tannin, oak, and mineral tension all in service of lasting wines.
