Expansive, structured, and sophisticated, this '16 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru is a knockout. Brambly berries, sun-warmed cherries, fresh earth, pressed wildflower petals, peppery spices, and sauvage earth mingle in this intense, focused wine. Beautifully textured, this Charmes-Chambertin layers its dense tannins with serious dry extract and a wonderful acidic spine, and it glides with power and finesse to a complex, balanced, and resonant finish. Coming from a parcel of vines situated along the border with its famous neighbor Le Chambertin, Gallois' Charmes-Chambertin is one of the most powerful and structured Charmes-Chambertins on the market. This grand cru derives from a third-acre parcel of vines that Dominique Gallois' grandfather planted in 1910 (since replanted); this wine ages for about 18 months in barrels, half new. It's a must-have wine for Burgundy connoisseurs. Just 130 cases made.

Domaine Dominque Gallois Description

The Gallois family has been crafting cult-inspiring reds from a tiny four-hectare estate since 1901, and while the estate's motto is "Respect and Modesty,"the tiny size of Dominique Gallois is matched by the fervor that its wines inspire in those wine-lovers in the know--and that fervor is fed by the estate's miniscule output, just 170-250 cases per label. So far this estate has managed to stride the line between cult producer and relative obscurity, but its recent releases suggest that it's poised on the brink of serious stardom. Gallois wines possess telltale silky texture and sweet, palate-drenching fruit, all while speaking evocatively of the wine's individual terroir, whether Bourgogne, Gevrey or Charmes Chambertin. These are wines made by a vigneron who knows each vine individually; in them, you can taste the respect and the love the Gallois family has for tradition, for their land, and for Burgundy.
