The 2019 Tradition is a textbook expression of Châteauneuf‑du‑Pape elegance. A classic blend of 65% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and 5% Cinsault, it balances power with poise, offering ripe black cherry and plum flavors that throb with energy, framed by subtle mineral salinity and a whisper of smoke. Wine Enthusiast hailed its “thrilling fruit purity and delicate minerality,” estimating peak aging from now through 2027. Decanter praised its full yet light character and impressive balance. This medium-to-full-bodied wine is a rare gem that both newcomers and connoisseurs will appreciate.
Domaine de la Janasse—led today by Christophe and Isabelle Sabon—has evolved into a standard-bearer for Châteauneuf‑du‑Pape over the last few decades. Founded in 1976 by their father, Aimé Sabon, the estate now spans some 15 hectares in the appellation, spread across roughly 15 distinct parcels. Janasse embraces a dynamic blend of traditional and modern practices: gentle destemming (typically 80% to preserve freshness), long macerations in concrete vats, and versatile élevage in foudres and demi‑muids with predominantly neutral oak, letting site and fruit take centre stage. The Tradition cuvée offers a beautifully poised introduction to their portfolio—expressive yet refined, showcasing Grenache’s suppleness, Syrah’s depth, and Mourvèdre’s structure.
