The 2018 Bussia is medium‑to‑full‑bodied with ripe cherry and berry flavors, lifted by floral notes like violet and rose, with savory spice and a touch of leather. Fine‑grained, firm tannins offer structure, while fresh acidity and a long finish provide elegance and aging potential. Aromatic and delineated, this Barolo will reward patience but is already showing promise.
Giacosa Fratelli is a family winery rooted in Neive, Piedmont, founded in 1895 by Giuseppe Giacosa. Over generations the family has acquired and farmed plots in Barolo (including in Bussia, Monforte d’Alba) and Barbaresco, always with an eye to expressing terroir. They practice organic viticulture, hand harvest, and use natural yeasts with careful, non‑invasive winemaking. The vineyards in Bussia benefit from calcareous clay soils rich in iron, elevation, and a slope‑exposure that adds both power and lift. Aging is done in large oak casks (30‑60 hl) for three years plus bottle aging, allowing tannins to settle and aromatics to evolve without forcing extraction. The estate balances traditional Nebbiolo structure—tannic, austere—with floral perfume and freshness, giving wines that can stand for a decade or more, while retaining vineyard character.
