The 2018 Grand Vin from Château de Nalys is a deeply expressive and exceptionally balanced Châteauneuf, born from a vintage of extreme concentration and freshness. The wine opens with an intense bouquet of red and black berries laced with warm spice. The palate is composed of silky tannins, striking power, and beguiling elegance—a beautiful synthesis of grace and depth. Critics have responded with acclaim, with Wine Spectator placing it among their Top 10 Wines of 2021, and Vinous describing it as “expressive, noble, and complete.” The blend—primarily Grenache augmented by Syrah, Mourvèdre, Counoise, and Vacarese—is fermented in wooden vats, aged 18 months (predominantly foudres and barrels), and benefitted from organically farmed vineyards.
Château de Nalys, a historic gem in the heart of Châteauneuf‑du‑Pape, was acquired by the esteemed Guigal family in 2017 to fulfill their long-standing aspiration to craft exceptional wines from the Southern Rhône. The estate boasts extraordinary terroirs—spanning the renowned galets-rich plots of La Crau, the fine red sandstone of Nalys, and the sandy-clay slopes of Bois Sénéchal—planted with all 13 permitted Châteauneuf-du-Pape varieties. Since taking ownership, Marcel and Philippe Guigal have seamlessly integrated their rigorous vineyard management and winemaking finesse, elevating Nalys into one of the appellation’s most compelling and terroir-driven expressions.
