The Montevetrano 1998 is a mature expression of Imparato’s vision, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Aglianico. With over two decades of age, the wine reveals tertiary layers of leather, tobacco, dried violets, and cedar, while still holding traces of dark berry fruit and balsamic herbs. The palate is silky yet firm, structured by Aglianico’s tannic backbone and enriched by the roundness of Merlot. Notes of blackcurrant, graphite, and savory spice unfold gradually, supported by a lingering, complex finish. At this stage, the 1998 vintage shows the harmony and depth that make Montevetrano a true collector’s wine, reflecting both longevity and finesse.
Silvia Imparato, a photographer turned winemaker, transformed her passion for wine into one of Campania’s most celebrated estates. In the late 1980s she founded Montevetrano near Salerno, a project that redefined the potential of southern Italian wines. Working alongside Riccardo Cotarella, she pioneered a Bordeaux-inspired blend rooted in Campania’s terroir. The vineyards, nestled among rolling hills and kissed by Mediterranean breezes, produce wines of remarkable elegance, bridging international style with local identity. Montevetrano quickly rose to international acclaim, earning recognition as a benchmark for southern Italian reds.
