The Jacquesson Champagne Brut Avize Champ Caïn 2009 is a pure Chardonnay from a single, walled 1.3-hectare parcel in the Grand Cru village of Avize, planted in 1962. The 2009 vintage, marked by ripe fruit and balanced acidity, enhances the wine’s generosity and depth. Aromas of white flowers, lemon zest, and ripe pear intertwine with notes of almond cream, pastry, and chalky minerality. On the palate, it is both expansive and finely etched, with layers of citrus, stone fruit, and saline tension. The long lees aging adds a silky texture and subtle brioche complexity, while the Extra Brut dosage keeps the finish vibrant and precise. A rare, cellar-worthy Champagne that captures the essence of Avize’s chalk-rich soils.
Founded in 1798, Jacquesson is one of Champagne’s most revered artisanal houses, known for its terroir-driven approach and commitment to low-intervention winemaking. Based in Dizy, the estate has been guided by brothers Jean-Hervé and Laurent Chiquet since the late 1980s, transforming Jacquesson into a benchmark for site-specific Champagnes. The domaine farms its vineyards sustainably, with meticulous attention to yield control and soil health, focusing on parcels in some of Champagne’s most prestigious terroirs, including Avize, Aÿ, and Dizy. Fermentation occurs in large oak foudres, with extended lees aging and minimal dosage to preserve purity and expressiveness. Jacquesson’s single-vineyard bottlings, such as Avize Champ Caïn, are rare and highly sought after for their precision and longevity.
