The 2023 Beaune Grèves shows an intense, bright ruby color and delivers aromas of red currant, spicy notes, and a touch of smoke or tobacco developing with age. On the palate the tannins are refined and polished, with good fruit density (red and black berries), a mineral undercurrent, and a captivating interplay of structure and harmony. The wine ends with crème de cassis, subtle oak influence, and a lingering finish. Drinking window is approximately 10‑20 years, with full potential out to 25 years.
Maison Joseph Drouhin, founded in 1880 and still family‑run, is among Burgundy’s most highly respected houses, known for owning top vineyards across the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits. The Grèves vineyard is a steep, prime Premier Cru site in Beaune, mid‑slope with gravelly soil (“graviers”) mixed with brown earth, giving excellent drainage and exposure. Drouhin farms this parcel carefully: hand harvest, indigenous yeasts, moderate use of new oak (around 25%), and 14‑18 months ageing. The goal is terroir clarity—letting soil, slope, and vintage show through with elegance and finesse.
