The 2023 Santenay Gravières Rouge offers vibrant aromas of wild strawberry, red cherry, and turned earth, with a hint of underbrush and spice. On the palate it is medium‑bodied, fresh, and well balanced—fine tannins support the fruit, with a mineral undertow giving lift and tension. There’s subtle oak influence, but fruit and terroir shine through. A wine to enjoy now with slight decanting, and to cellar for several years as it gains depth and complexity.

Joseph Drouhin, founded in 1880, is one of Burgundy’s most respected family estates, with vineyards scattered throughout the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits. The “Gravières” lieu‑dit in Santenay is prized for its gravelly, well‑draining soils and gentle slopes that give wines a balance of earthiness and freshness. Drouhin farms these parcels with care—hand‑harvesting, rigorous selection, fermenting with indigenous yeasts, and aging in oak (often partly new) to add structure without overwhelming the grape.
