The 2019 shows delicate aromas of blue flower, red currant, cranberry, and earthy potting soil, with underbrush and rosemary wafting through. On the palate it offers classic Sangiovese character—bright cherry and strawberry tones, silky tannins, and refined structure, finishing with elegance and a lingering mineral lift. Critics note its balance between vibrancy and restraint: “silky smooth … with vibrant acidity driving tart wild berry fruits and mineral tones.”
Le Ragnaie is a young and ambitious Brunello estate in Montalcino, acquired in 2002 by Riccardo Campinoti and his wife Jennifer, who set out to make terroir‑driven, organic wines at high elevation. The property now covers ~15.5 hectares, farmed under organic principles with no chemical fertilizers and cover crops to maintain soil health. Their vineyards are among the highest in Montalcino, reaching over 600 meters, lending freshness, clarity, and altitude tension to their wines. Vinification is traditional yet thoughtful: native yeasts, long macerations (up to 90 days), aging 36 months in large Slavonian oak botti, and bottling unfiltered. Le Ragnaie’s philosophy emphasizes transparency: the wines aim to reflect vineyard nuance, season, and the altitude’s contribution rather than overt manipulation.
