The 2017 vintage of the Mascarello Barolo magnum opens with a luminous garnet‑ruby hue and a refined, captivating aroma of wild cherry, rose petal, lilac, crushed stone and a whisper of orange rind and tobacco leaf.  On the palate it is elegant yet structured—bright acidity underpins a core of red‑berry compote and crimson cherry framed by firm but polished tannins that reflect the traditional, patient winemaking style.  Mid‑palate complexity builds with touches of violet, graphite, earth‑moss and dried herb, while the large format provides breadth and depth suited to long‑term ageing.  The finish is long and precise, lingering with cherry pit, licorice root, iron filings and a chalky minerality that both teases and rewards patience.  While approachable with an hour’s decanting, this 1.5 L is clearly built to evolve for 15‑20 + years—cellaring will reward the thoughtful enthusiast.
