The 2019 is one of Mayacamas’s more flamboyant yet beautifully balanced offerings. Dark, rich fruits dominate—blackberry, mulberry—with layers of tobacco, incense, mocha, dried herbs, and graphite emerging with airing. There’s brisk acidity, iron‑laced tannins, and a mineral backbone that give grip and lift, preventing sweetness from overwhelming the profile. Aromatics like lilac, sage, and bay leaf peek through in moments, adding nuance. Critics have responded accordingly: Vinous gives it 97 points calling it “a blast of dark fruit, incense, tobacco, licorice, spice and mocha … powerful today, but built for years in bottle.”  Wine Spectator praised its “character and energy … zesty sweet bay leaf … iron‑laced tannins … steeped red currant and mulberry fruit.”
