The 2014 Ovello Riserva is a classic and restrained expression from a cooler vintage. The bouquet is lifted, offering aromas of sour cherry, redcurrant, wild herbs, rose petal, and crushed stone, with hints of licorice and spice. On the palate, it is medium-bodied but structured, with taut tannins and brisk acidity framing its bright fruit core. Mineral and earthy undertones provide complexity, while the finish is long, firm, and precise. More linear and serious than some of the other 2014 crus, this Ovello is built for the cellar, where its structure and vibrant freshness will carry it gracefully for 15–20 years.

Since its founding in 1958, Produttori del Barbaresco has stood as the benchmark cooperative of Piedmont, uniting more than 50 growers across the appellation. Their single-vineyard Riservas are produced only in the best vintages and are renowned for highlighting the individuality of Barbaresco’s finest crus. Ovello is the largest cru in the Barbaresco zone and one of its most celebrated. With higher elevation and cooler exposure, its Nebbiolo grapes ripen more slowly, resulting in wines of pronounced freshness, energy, and structure. The style of Ovello is often firmer and more austere in youth, with a distinct mineral character that makes it among the most ageworthy of all Produttori’s Riservas.
