The 2000 Selezione opens with an intense garnet rim and black‑cherry core, layered with aromas of dusty red cherries, mint, crushed flowers and licorice, showing the wine’s elegant complexity. On the palate it is deep and opulent yet impeccably balanced: dark berry compote, espresso, cocoa and balsamic spice merge with firm, polished tannins and vibrant acidity that lend structure and longevity. A profound mineral thread—iron and graphite—runs through the mid‑palate, offering definition and depth. The finish is long, silky and shifting, with tobacco leaf, violet petal and dark chocolate notes linger for minutes. With only 4,016 bottles produced and its rare status, this Amarone is a collectible masterpiece, showing beautifully now yet built for further evolution.
Giuseppe Quintarelli is revered as one of the greatest winemakers in Valpolicella, widely dubbed “the maestro” of the region. His estate in Negrar is known for ultra‑low yields, extended appassimento (grape drying) and elaborate ageing protocols—factors that place his wines among Italy’s most collectible. He personally oversaw the creation of the Selezione bottlings, which are drawn from his finest parcels and aged longer in cask than even the regular Amarone. Following his death in 2012, the Quintarelli family continues his legacy with the same devotion to craft, rarity and the pure expression of place.
