The Valpolicella Superiore 1995 is an extraordinary example of Quintarelli’s vision—showing what many dismiss as a humble appellation elevated to greatness. At nearly three decades of age, it has developed a haunting bouquet of dried cherry, fig, tobacco, leather, and balsamic herbs, with subtle hints of cocoa and exotic spice. The palate is silky and layered, with remarkable balance between savory earth, dried fruit, and mineral-driven freshness. Quintarelli’s hallmark touch of ripasso adds richness and depth, giving the wine a velvety texture and lingering finish. Mature yet vibrant, the 1995 is a rare window into both the longevity of Valpolicella and the artistry of one of Italy’s greatest winemakers.
Giuseppe Quintarelli, often called the “Maestro del Veneto,” is the legendary figure behind some of Italy’s most revered wines. Based in Negrar in the hills of Valpolicella, Quintarelli transformed the region’s reputation through uncompromising attention to detail, low yields, long aging, and an almost spiritual dedication to craft. His cellar is synonymous with patience—wines are often released only after a decade or more of careful maturation. Quintarelli’s philosophy was always to let the vineyard speak: natural farming, painstaking grape selection, and an insistence on quality over quantity. The family estate continues his legacy today, maintaining his unique stylistic imprint that marries power, complexity, and timeless elegance.
