This Dolcetto d’Alba 2022 is a charming and approachable red that highlights the grape’s signature freshness and fruit-forward style. In the glass, it reveals aromas of wild berries, violet, and a touch of spice. The palate is lively and juicy, with notes of black cherry, plum, and subtle almond, framed by soft tannins and vibrant acidity. Meant to be enjoyed young, it’s a perfect everyday red that pairs well with pasta, cured meats, grilled vegetables, or pizza—an easygoing yet characterful wine that delivers classic Piedmontese charm.

The small winery of San Giuliano rests its head on the historic hillside vineyard of the same name but subsumes a total of 7 hectares of vineyards spread throughout the Piemonte zones of Roero, Asti, Neive, and Barbaresco. Owner-enologist Giulio Pastura carries on his grandfather’s trade but has turned from bulk sales to high quality bottlings. Giulio and his wife, Mariella Stupino, do both the vineyard and the cellar work themselves, producing a varied line of reliable wines from the region’s native Nebbiolo, Moscato, Barbera, Dolcetto, Arneis, and Brachetto. Their lovely, accessible Barbarescos follow the tradition of aging in oak botti for 18 months.
