The 2010 Il Carbonaione opens with a deeply saturated, almost blue‑tinged purple‑black colour. On the nose there is an intense bouquet of blackberry, blueberry compote, dark plums, pressed violets, graphite and smoke, layered with hints of licorice and black truffle.  On the palate the wine is full‑bodied with rich, concentrated dark‑fruit flavors—black cherry, blackcurrant—balanced by powerful yet refined tannins and fresh acidity. The minerality is pronounced: crushed stone, slate and an iron‑laced thread give lift and drive.  Mid‑palate notes include cedar chest, tobacco leaf and a subtle sanguine undercurrent.
