The 2012 Roero Arneis from Cornarea shows a straw‑yellow hue with nose of white flowers, pear, peach, and hints of tropical fruit. On the palate it is full and harmonious—silky texture balanced by firm acidity and an underlying mineral saltiness derived from the terroir. Over time it may evolve further complexity, but it already captures the purity and elegance that define Cornarea’s approach.
Cantina Cornarea sits in the Roero hills near Alba in Piedmont, and has played a central role in reviving the native Arneis grape, which once nearly vanished from the region. Founded in 1975 when 12 hectares were planted with Arneis, Cornarea has committed its efforts to preserving this local variety using modern winemaking adapted to express terroir. The vineyards lie on miocene marine-derivative soils rich in magnesium and fossils, giving the wines a distinctive mineral thread. Cornarea emphasizes purity and freshness, using reductive, low-intervention methods and avoiding excessive oak or manipulation to let fruit and site speak. Their mission is as much cultural preservation as commerce—Arneis had nearly disappeared before Cornarea’s reintroduction efforts.
