Cantina Terlano (or Kellerei Terlan) is a landmark winery in Alto Adige with roots stretching back to 1893, when a group of local growers first came together to form a cooperative in order to raise both quality and reputation of their wines. Their vineyards cover steep to moderate slopes between about 250-900 m in elevation, driven by a combination of warm sunny days, cooling alpine nights, and soils rich in porphyry and minerals that contribute to a strong sense of terroir and excellent longevity.
Over time Terlano has become especially significant to the Alto Adige region for its emphasis on white wines — crisp, mineral-driven, precise, with ageing potential. It has managed to blend tradition and modern technology: their cellars were upgraded in 2009, and their winemaking is very site-sensitive, often allowing the identity of specific sites (e.g. Winkl, Vorberg, Quarz) to come through in the wine.
