This 2007 “Pagliaro”, from Paolo Bea’s revered hilltop vineyard at ~1,300 ft elevation, is crafted from 100 % Sagrantino and displays a deep garnet‑ruby colour. On the nose it offers intense aromas of blackberry jam, dried fig, leather, violet, cracked pepper and wild herbs. On the palate it is full‑bodied and richly textured, with firm, tightly woven tannins, dark bramble fruit, smoky earth and mineral grip, building toward a long, lingering finish of licorice and espresso‑like depth.
Paolo Bea is a pioneering figure in Montefalco, Umbria, known for his organic and biodynamic farming methods and a fiercely individualistic winemaking approach. The Bea estate emphasises minimal intervention—native yeasts, no filtration, and a deep respect for terroir—yielding wines of intensity, purity and ageworthiness. The family’s commitment to site‑specific expression and little‑seen vineyard blocks has made their wines iconic among enthusiasts of Italian fine wine.
