The 2021 Armada is powerful, aromatic, and compelling: dark ruby/plum in hue, with aromas of smoked black and red fruit (blackberry, black cherry), violet and rose blossom, bacon‑smoke, and a touch of grill and cured meat. On the palate it’s full‑bodied and structured with dense fruit, firm but ripe tannins, lively acidity, and notable minerality; there’s a savory, iron‑tinged edge and complexity from forest floor, spice, and earthy tones. It demands air and benefits from a few years in cellar—drinking window roughly 2025‑2040. Critics describe it as “rich, concentrated Syrah with terrific overall balance and ripe tannins” (Jeb Dunnuck) and “lifting bouquet of violet and smoke, with fresh acidity and energy” (Vinous).

Cayuse is a legendary name in Washington State wine, founded by Christophe Baron (of Domaine de la Romanée‑Conti lineage) in Walla Walla Valley. The team farms biodynamically, works with very high vine density (particularly in their top sites like Armada), and handles every aspect—soil, clone, yield, barrel—all with obsessive precision. Their wines are built not for instant gratification but for layering, tension, and eventual grandeur.
