The 2012 Barbe Rac is crafted from 100% old‑vine Grenache in the eastern Châteauneuf‑du‑Pape “Croix de Bois / Barbe Rac” parcel. It presents a deep garnet hue, with aromas of licorice, wild cherry, cocoa, and dried Mediterranean herbs. On the palate it is full‑bodied and generous — dark berry fruit, tobacco leaf, spice and firm tannins underpin a long, savoury finish.
Founded in 1808 and guided by Michel Chapoutier, the estate is a benchmark in Rhône viticulture — pioneering biodynamic practices, single‑vineyard “Sélection Parcellaire” wines, and a profound focus on letting terroir speak through minimal intervention. Their vineyards on steep slopes and old vines, especially within appellations such as Hermitage and Châteauneuf‑du‑Pape, yield wines prized for precision, structure and longevity.
