From a vineyard of century‑old Syrah vines at the summit of the Hermitage hill, this 2011 vintage shows an intensely deep garnet colour. On the nose: blackberries, cassis, wild herbs, smoky bacon fat, graphite and ink‑like spice. On the palate it’s full‑bodied, densely structured, yet remarkably poised for its power—firm, velvety tannins, dense black fruit, licorice and minerals, with a finish of length and precision. The wine is built for the long haul.
Founded in 1808 and now led by Michel Chapoutier, this estate is one of the Rhône Valley’s foremost references. With a commitment to biodynamic viticulture and site‑specific winemaking, Chapoutier emphasizes minimal intervention to let the terroir speak. Their single‑vineyard cuvées—such as L’Ermite—are hand‑harvested from old vines on granite soils and vinified with precision, resulting in wines of extraordinary depth, longevity and authenticity.
