The 2019 vintage is often hailed as one of the finest in the estate’s modern era. It features a deep garnet-purple hue, and opens with a seductive bouquet of cassis, cherries, tobacco, bay leaf, and cedar. The palate is tightly coiled and intense, offering layered black fruit, graphite, and a fine-grained, chalky tannin backbone. Despite its density, the wine maintains a racy freshness and a smoky-sweet oak lift. Critics have awarded it ratings ranging from 94 to 95+—including 95 from Wine Advocate, 94 from James Suckling, and up to 96 from Jeb Dunnuck—praising its balance, concentration, and remarkable aging potential through 2055.  

Château Lagrange is a storied Third Growth estate in Saint-Julien, with origins dating back to the Gallo-Roman era and a proud place in the 1855 Classification. Reinvigorated since Suntory’s acquisition in 1983, the estate benefits from substantial investments in both vineyard and cellar modernization under the stewardship of Matthieu Bordes. Its 118-hectare vineyard—the largest single block among Médoc Classified Growths—sits on gently rising gravels with excellent drainage, combining Cabernet Sauvignon (65–80%) with Merlot and a touch of Petit Verdot. The meticulous viticulture and vinification yield wines that embody structure, depth, and noble elegance.
