The 2016 vintage of Château Léoville Barton reveals a deep purple‑garnet core and opens with a profound bouquet of crème de cassis, black plum preserves, blueberry compote, graphite dust and subtle cigar box aromas.  On the palate it is medium‑to‑full‑bodied with dense dark‑fruit core—black cherry, blackcurrant—framed by finely‑wrought tannins, vibrant acidity and a decidedly mineral spine of crushed gravel and slate.  Secondary layers of licorice, tobacco leaf and dark chocolate emerge, anchored by a persistent note of iron‑rich gravel that lifts the finish and gives this wine grandeur and longevity.  The oak is seamlessly integrated, supporting the fruit without overshadowing it; the overall impression is one of power held in elegant restraint.  While already attractive with decanting, this 2016 is built for ageing—its peak drinking window stretches from the late 2020s into the 2030s and beyond.  In short: a decidedly classic Léoville Barton—structured, focused, profoun

Chateau Leoville-Barton Description

Château Léoville Barton is a revered Second Growth estate in the Saint‑Julien appellation of Bordeaux, one of the few major Médoc properties still owned by the same family (the Bartons) since the 19th century.  Located on gravelly top‑soils with clay sub‑soil and planted predominantly to Cabernet Sauvignon, Léoville Barton’s vineyards yield wines of great depth, structure and classic Left‑Bank character.  Winemaking retains a largely traditional approach—long vat macerations, moderate new oak (typically ~50‑60%), and minimal intervention—producing wines of serious intensity yet enduring elegance.  The estate is known for its “old‑school” style: firm tannins, gravel‑driven minerality, and the ability to age gracefully for decades—a style that appeals deeply to collectors.
