The 2019 edition is celebrated as one of Léoville Barton’s finest modern efforts. Deep garnet in appearance, it opens with intense notes of blackcurrant jelly, wild berries, pencil shavings, cedar, and licorice. The palate is medium-to-full bodied, structured, and mineral-driven, buoyed by fine-grained, powdery tannins and a long, layered finish. Critics responded with acclaim—97 points from Wine Advocate, 98 from Lisa Perrotti-Brown, 97 from Jeb Dunnuck, and glowing praise from others—highlighting its energy, poise, and decades of aging potential through 2045.
Château Léoville Barton is one of Saint-Julien’s most esteemed Second Growth estates, continuously family-owned since 1826—a rarity in Bordeaux history. Its vineyards span gravelly soils optimized for Cabernet Sauvignon (72%), with contributions from Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Since the 1980s, under the Barton family’s stewardship, vine-to-bottle precision, parcel-level care, and traditional winemaking—aging in French oak—have upheld its reputation for elegance, power, and classic terroir expression.
